Sean Kelly / Digital Social Hour Podcast

Could cold traffic sell paid guest features on Digital Social Hour?

Sean had already spent $20K on ads that went nowhere after the closer could not turn leads into sales. He wanted proof before he opened the budget again. We capped this test at $200 a day and built it around one question: would cold traffic pay for a feature?

What I was brought in to do

Run the paid test and build the funnel that put qualified calls in front of a new closer.

Five paid guest features brought in $50,000. This was a controlled test, not a scaled campaign.

The anti-guru filter

Big ideaMake the person with something real to say feel like they belong in the room.

The adThe script spelled out who the show wanted: operators who had built something worth talking about. It made people looking for a quick credibility shortcut feel like they were not the right fit. That gave the new closer a better starting point.

Put your business in front of a bigger audience.

Big ideaGive business owners a chance to get their story in front of the Digital Social Hour audience.

The adThis ad spoke to business owners who wanted more exposure for the business they had already built. A feature gave them a chance to reach a larger audience and leave with an asset they could keep using after the episode.

Could the offer work beyond founders?

Big ideaTest whether professionals outside the founder and CEO audience would pay for a feature.

The adThis version opened the offer to creators, artists, and other professionals who were not business owners first. It was a tougher sale because it was harder to show the direct return. Founders and business owners could see more clearly how a feature might help them bring in business, so we did not put more budget behind the broader angle.

What I learnedThe broader angle could book calls, but founders were the clearer buyer. We ended this test instead of spending more just because the campaign had produced a sale.

After the click / Qualification work

Keep tire-kickers off the closer’s calendar.

The ad only mattered if the application protected the closer’s time. I built the guest page, wrote the qualification questions, and connected the path from application to booking and payment tracking.

Early submissions made it clear that some people were never going to buy. I changed the questionnaire and sent those answers to a DQ page instead of a booking page. The closer got fewer dead-end calls and more time with people who could pay.

Why we stopped at the test

Sean wanted a clean answer before he spent another dollar.

The earlier campaign had burned $20K. This time, the daily cap stayed low and the show schedule limited how aggressively he wanted to open paid guest slots. Once the test produced five paid features, Sean chose not to turn it into a full-scale campaign. The job was to prove the funnel could work and leave him with a path a closer could run.

Cold ads had to make YouTube feel like a client-acquisition channel.

OCE sold a $15K–$26K YouTube buildout to high-ticket coaches, consultants, and service businesses. I came in at day one to turn that offer into a sales path that got the right person to a strategy call.

01 / Cold ad

A 200-view video can still bring in a $22K client.

Big ideaA YouTube video does not need a huge view count when it reaches buyers in your target audience.

The adThis ad called out coaches who treated YouTube like Instagram. It led with a 200-view video that brought in $22K to make a different point: the right video keeps working after the post is old. The offer came after that belief was in place.

Ad strategyLead with the 200-view result. The right buyer understands why that number mattered.

02 / Cold ad

Your paid leads should know you before the call.

Big ideaA closer should not be the first place a paid lead learns what you do.

The adThis was written for businesses already buying leads. It put YouTube in the middle of that process, so prospects could see the expertise and understand the offer before they booked a call.

Ad strategyStart with a problem paid-traffic buyers already feel. Then give the video a clear job inside the sales process.

After the click / VSL

The VSL served as a pre-sales tool that drove warmer leads.

The ads earned the click. The VSL explained what OCE would do, why the YouTube strategy worked, and what the client had to bring to the table.

By the time the form appeared, the prospect knew the offer was a real business commitment. That made the sales call more useful for everyone involved.

My role Wrote the VSL and built the page sequence around it.

After the click / Application

Filter non-serious people before they reach sales.

We tested several versions of the form before we had one that did the job. It screened for business type, revenue, and offer price before the person asked for a strategy call.

Those answers gave sales the context to decide whether the call belonged on the calendar. The form had one purpose: get the right applicant through and keep everyone else out.

Lifestyles Unlimited / 2-year engagement

I turned a two-hour workshop into a 45-minute sales presentation. Then I more than doubled checkout conversion.

Lifestyles Unlimited had 35 years of credibility and a steady flow of people registering for its free workshop. The webinar ran nearly two hours before the pitch, the $297 Financial Freedom Program sales page felt dated, and the checkout was losing people who were ready to buy. I started on copy, mapped the whole path, then came on full-time to rebuild it.

Cut a two-hour workshop down to 45 minutes.

The old workshop took too long to get to the Financial Freedom Program offer. I rewrote the hook, tightened the story, put proof where people needed it, and moved the pitch forward. The new version made it to the sale before people left.

I rebuilt the sales page around the person reading it, then reworked the SamCart checkout with decision-reinforcing copy and trust elements. The offer and price stayed the same. The pages carrying the buyer to checkout changed.

The results

The post-click work paid for itself.

On the same $297 offer, checkout conversion more than doubled. Across the rebuilt workshop and sales-page path, the system produced $282,277 in product revenue over 18 months.

What the front end unlockedThe $297 program was the front end. New buyers then entered an ascension program with $12K–$22K packages. Better front-end conversion put more qualified buyers into the part of the business that generated millions in revenue.
